the waterland

Shown at Reel A.L.E. festival, I filmed fenland fields covered with plastic. This agricultural process warms the soil so that crops can come to market earlier, but there is a mysterious quality to the billowing sheets of plastic. It seems as if it is water not land. Fenland has changed beyond recognition. It is reclaimed from the sea, mercurial, it shares its characteristics with the water, discontent as land, it is not as solid as it seems. Experimental sound with a bow and banjo, mixed with field recording.
